Perera sacked from ODI captaincy, new announcement to come soon

The reformation in Sri Lanka cricket under the new coach Chandika Hathurusingha has been going on; the latest addition in a string of incidents is sacking Thisara Perera as the one day international captain.

Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC), hours after that, has said the name of the new captain will be announced on Thursday after having proper discussions with head coach Chandika Hathurusingha.

“During the discussion, the chairman of selectors informed me that they are considering appointing either Angelo Mathews or Dinesh Chandimal to fill the role,” SLC President Thilanga Sumathipala said in a statement.

“Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) will announce its limited over captain on January 9,” he further stated.

The island nation who is the proud world title holder of 1996 under the legendary captain Arjuna Ranatunga, has been declining from success drastically since the retirement of top notch performers like Kumar Sangakkara, Mahela Jayawardene and Chaminda Vaas.
