Bangladesh have made a dream start to ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 by beating South Africa by 21 runs at The Oval, London.

Losing the toss, Bangladesh were sent in to bat first and put on a record 330/6 – their highest ever ODI total. Soumya Sarkar, Shakib Al Hasan, Mushfiqur Rahim and Mahmudullah Riyad were among the runs for the Tigers.

In reply, South Africa were restricted to 309/8 which left them to second consecutive loss in this tournament, Mustafizur Rahman was the star with three wickets. Shakib took the sole wicket of Aiden Markram to complete his tally of 250 ODI wickets, the second Bangladeshi to do so.

Shakib also became the fastest to 5000+ runs and 250+ wickets in ODIs – 199 matches.
