PM Hasina praises Bangladesh team

PM Sheikh Hasina said in the ceremony mentioning Bangladesh’s successes under her government, “ICC (International Cricket Council) gave Bangladesh the Test status when we were in the government. Bangladesh beat Pakistan in World Cup (1999) to surprise the world during our era.

“When we got Test status, some were saying that Bangladesh got Test status by lobbying with other board presidents.

One of the winners of National Sports award, Shakib Al Hasan’s mates were thanked by the Prime Minister. she said, “Now we have players like Tamim (Iqbal), Mashrafe (Mortaza), Mushfiqur (Rahim). Mustafiz (ur Rahman) is very new. He has been named ‘Cutter Master’. I thank them all.

“Nowadays each and every single nation pays home to the Royal Bengal Tigers. Our Tigers are also well aware of that. Insha Allah we will be crowded world champions someday,” she added saying Bangladesh will be world champions one day.

32 sportspersons have been honoured at National Sports Awards. Only two cricketers were there – Khaled Mashud Pilot and Shakib Al Hasan. Previously, Akram Khan and Mohammad Rafique were honoured by this governmental award ceremony.

United Nations (UN) observe April 6 as ‘World Sports Day’ every year. Bangladesh PM has declared that, the same will be followed in the country.
