Poor weather set to force ‘Bushfire Cricket Bash’ to shift from SCG

Cricket Australia (CA) on Wednesday confirmed that the Bushfire Cricket Bash charity game will not take place at the Sydney Cricket Ground on Saturday according to schedule as the New South Wales capital forecasts showed heavy rainfall this weekend.

The charity match has enrolled a significant number of big names of the sport from present and past to convene and raise money for the Bushfire Relief fund.

The decision has been taken aiming to allow the KFC Big Bash Final to go ahead according to settled time frame in front of a sell-out SCG crowd.

Alternative venues for the Bushfire charity match are under exploration by the cricket’s governing body. Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) could be one of the prioritized options for the occasion.

With no reserve day on the card, a rain interruption during the BBL final might cut the match into five overs per side contest. Meanwhile any complete wash out would see Sydney Sixers to be crowned the BBL 2019-20 title as the hosts of the final.

Sixers fast bowler Josh Hazlewood opined a curtailed match would be like a lottery and said, “If you’ve got five overs, a batter hits a couple of balls out of the ground it’s game over just about or one bowler bowls a good over it’s the same result,” Hazlewood told reporters in Sydney this week.

“It is a bit of a lottery but that’s what it comes down to sometimes.

“The one thing we’re worried about is getting one of those five, six, seven-over games.
