Proteas’ Morris pens new deal with Hampshire
Proteas fast bowler Chris Morris will soon start a new innings in T20 Blast 2019 as he was roped in by Hampshire on Wednesday (May 8), a day after he was named in South Africa’s World Cup squad as a potential replacement for injured Anrich Nortje (who was ruled of the tournament with a fractured hand).
Morris will avail himself for Hampshire soon after his World Cup plans and will represent them in the T20 Blast which starts in July. Interestingly, he is also the first overseas player purchased by Hampshire this season.
Chris Morris is an integral part of Delhi Capitals in the ongoing IPL. So far so good for Morris as he has relished the taste of success for the franchise in the last few years here and for CSK as well.
Sadly, he failed to live up to his reputation in IPL 2019 as the bowler leaked enough runs in death overs and not just that as he also struggled to contribute with the bat as well, which is why Delhi have gone for other overseas players instead.
After being selected by Hampshire for the T20 Blast, Chris Morris said: “I’m really looking forward to joining Hampshire for the Vitality Blast. It’s an exciting tournament and it’s an exciting summer coming up, I can’t wait to get there and play at the Ageas Bowl and express what I can do.”
Morris packs a good punch
Chris Morris’ supreme ability to claim wickets and playing instrumental knocks in the crunch stages of the game in the lower middle order makes him quite an effective all-rounder.
White, Director of Hampshire County Cricket said that the franchise is delighted to have recruited the handy services of Chris Morris.
“We were delighted when Chris agreed early on to join us for the season. He’s a dynamic batsman in the middle-order and a handful with the ball both up front and at the death, so he’s a great fit for us and hopefully, he’ll make a big difference this summer,” White added in a statement.
