PSL 2020: Karachi dedicate maiden title win to Dean Jones
Karachi Kings have dedicated their title of fifth edition of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) to the late cricket coach Dean Jones.
Karachi won their maiden title on Tuesday (November 17) by defeating Lahore Qalandars by 5 wickets. Jones coached the team before the play-offs.
PSL was supposed to end last March. The play-off game was postponed due to coronavirus. Jones, who was the coach of Karachi in the fifth edition, died two and a half months before the play-offs. Under his coaching, the team took place in the play-offs.
Karachi’s Babar Azam, Imad Wasim remembered their coach throughout the play-offs. The dugout had the layout of ‘Professor Deano’. He was also honored before the start of the play-offs. Jones was instrumental in Karachi’s title win. Karachi camp said at the end of the match that the title won at home was dedicated to him.
“Dean Jones, of course, gets credit because what he taught us, very few coaches in the world can,” Imad said in the post-match presentation.
Wasim Akram, who replaced Jones as Karachi’s head coach also dedicated the victory to him. “Of course this win is for Dean Jones […] it’s the late Jones’ hard work that had brought this about,” he said.
