Quetta Gladiators tops the point table with big win
Quetta Gladiators have just registered their third win in this season’s Pakistan Super League (PSL) and became the table topper with highest 7 points on the card. On Saturday, they have beaten Lahore Qalandars by 5 wickets with 7 balls remaining in their innings. Playing 5 matches so far in the tournament, Quetta seized 3 wins beside 1 loss. At the initial stage of the 11th match of PSL, Quetta Gladiators’ captain Sarfaraz Ahmed won the coin luck and sent Lahore Qalandars to bat first. Lahore Qalandars stored a huge amount on the board in contest of a T20 match. They rested their innings at exact 200 runs for the loss of just 3 wickets.
Chasing the comprehensive target, Quetta Gladiators innings started poorly losing early wickets. Opener Saad Nasim got dismissed in the third over and his partner Ahmed Shehzad also lost his place shortly after.
Shehzad scored 15 runs off 15 balls and was bowled by Mohammad Irfan in the 5th over. Batting at one down, former English hard hitter Kevin Pietersen showed his class once again in the field. Ruthlessly he approached to his counterparts and with an amazing strike rate of more than 200, KP blasted things off for Quetta Gladiators.
He smashed 8 over boundaries and 3 fours as well in his 42 ball innings. He not only rescued the team from the possible disaster but also led the side to an unquenchable victory at the end.
Kevin Pietersen was not out scoring 88 runs. R Rossouw accompanied KP in half of the battle; Rossouw stormed to 33 runs off 18 balls with 3 boundaries and 2 over boundaries.
After Thisara Perera was bamboozled caught by the substitute fielder Aamer Yamin off the bowling of Delport, Ahmed Shehzad came into the scene for Quetta Gladiators. With equal number of fours and sixes, Shehzad scored 45 runs facing 25 balls.
For Lahore Qalandars, Opener Jason Roy and Fakhar Zaman stood for a 77 run opening partnership in less than 7 overs. Although Fakhar missed his half century, became the sole victim of Zulfiqar Babar scoring 47 runs (31 balls, 4×6, 6×1), Roy completed his half century before being uprooted by Hasan Khan. Roy scored 51 runs in just 27 deliveries. He struck 6 fours and 3 sixes.
Lahore Qalandars lost 2 wickets more within the score of 123 runs on the board; at the end Mohammad Rizwan and CS Delport constructed another massive partnership of 73 runs and raised the score to 200 runs in their 20 overs.
