Rafique in search of new Shakib

Bangladesh’s spin legend Mohammad Rafique retired from both international and all forms of domestic competitive cricket a long time ago. Since his retirement back in 2008, unlike his other teammates, he was never an active part of Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB), neither as an administrator nor a coach. But finally he has broken the deadlock by joining BCB’s High Performance (HP) Program as spin consultant. (নিউজটি বাংলায় পড়ুন)

Rafique’s job is to work with the young spinners so that they could shun their merit under the supervision of a true legend to become effective contenders to feature for the national team sometime in the future. Given that it’s a highly challenging task to work with the probable prospects for the future, Rafique is very much delighted to have taken up the challenge.

On Sunday (July 24), Rafique formally took charge of the HP Program’s spin department. He appeared in the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium to complete the formalities before facing the newsmen. While talking with the reporters, the lengendary spinner claimed that local coaching staffs are more capable of working with the young cricketers than the foreigners.

“I know my responsibility, and I want to take it as a challenge. I want to create the likes of Shakib (Al Hasan) and Saqlain (Sajib) of future who could bring glory for the country. I believe local coaching staffs are doing better than those hired from outside the country, and they will be able to unearth real promising talents for the days to come,” said Rafique.
