Rafique to join as spin coach of Rangpur Riders
Mohammad Rafique, the bowler who claimed 100 wickets for Bangladesh for the first time both in Test and one day international cricket, became an instrumental figure to establish Bangladesh’s name in world cricket with his skill and temperament when Bangladesh emerged as a Test nation in 2000. He is going to work as the spin bowling coach of Rangpur Riders in the forthcoming fifth edition of the Bangladesh Premier League.
“Whatever I know as a spinner I want to teach youngsters. I think if a single bowler could rise up to the national level in my teaching, it would be a great success for me,” said Mohammad Rafique.
The veteran spinner, with a heavy heart, complained the board never pick him up for any task that he could serve the country after his retirement.
“BCB do not call me at all. Sometimes they inform me about petty task to work for ten fifteen days, and after that, no one ask anything really. I always say I want to work for cricket in Bangladesh, even when I was playing in the national team, I told I want to serve the nation after my retirement,” said Rafique.
“BCB never really call me. When Venkat Raju came to work in Bangladesh he asked ‘why you people brought me here when you have a bowler like Rafique? I learnt a lot from Rafique.’ BCB is financially rich now. They are looking just to spend money,” agitated Rafique said.
