Rafique to work as spin specialist in HP program
Mohammad Rafique is a legend player in any sense in the history of cricket in Bangladesh. He played for Bangladesh national cricket team for a long time, and was the holder of many records on the international level, some of which are still unbroken.
And now the good news is that Rafique is once again coming back to cricket. However, this time around, not as a cricketer but as a trainer. He is going to work with the promising youngsters of Bangladesh in the ongoing Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) High Performance (HP) Program which went underway from last July 17 in BCB Academy Ground in Mirpur.
Regarding the appointment of Rafique, BCB’s game development division’s national manager Najmul Abedeen Fahim, who is also in charge of the HP Unit, said: “Rafique will work as a spin specialist. Apart from Wahidul Haque Goni, Rafique will also be in the intensive care program for the young talents.”
It can be noted that Rafique called time on international career in 2008. He is still Bangladesh’s second highest wicket-taker with 100 wickets to his name, only behind the world’s number one all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan (147 wickets). However, since retirement, Rafique has never been directly associated with any BCB activities before. In the third season of Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) last year, Rafique worked with Rangpur Riders.
