Raina is number one fielder for me in modern era: Rhodes
Former South Africa player and legendary fielder Jonty Rhodes had words full of praise for Indian batsman Suresh Raina.
Rhodes, who is arguably the greatest fielder of all time has picked Suresh Raina as his number one fielder. He believes Raina is the best fielder in the modern era.
The former South Africa man was the fielding coach of Mumbai India and has a good relationship with Raina. In a latest interview on ICC website, Rhodes revealed that he is a big fan of Raina.
“I have been a massive fan of Suresh Raina, for forever; ever since he started playing. aina plays in India all the time, and I know what the conditions of the fields are (in India). Every time he practices, every time he dives, it is going to be sore.”
“He doesn’t even give a second hesitation – should I dive, should I not – he goes for the ball, which pretty much was my philosophy of ‘if you don’t go, you will never know’ and he has done that, taking great catches in the slips, in the outfield, in the circle. I have loved watching Suresh Raina, he is my number one fielder,” he added.
When asked about his other favourite fielders, Rhodes mentioned AB de Villiers, Paul Collingwood, Herschelle Gibbs and Australia’s Andrew Symonds.
“As a contemporary, Hershelle was an incredible fielder. It was great to have him next to me at backward point. and No.3, and not No.3 in order, just with regards to to me very similar in the fielding the same position as me, Collingwood was a fantastic fielder,’ he concluded.
