Rajasthan Royals might seek replacement for Steve Smith

Aussie skipper accused of favoritism

The former Australian skipper, Steve Smith might miss another season of the cash-rich T20 league due to an elbow injury. According to the reports, the Rajasthan-based IPL franchise is seeking a replacement for the batsman.

He injured his right elbow during the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) and had to return home to recover from an injury. Smith, who represents Comilla Victorians in the BPL, had trouble batting in the nets. After an MRI scan was done, he was told to return back to Australia.

“Steve Smith will undergo surgery on Tuesday to repair a ligament in his right elbow. He is expected to wear a brace for six weeks before commencing rehabilitation. Return to play time frames will be clearer once the brace has been removed,” a statement from Cricket Australia.

He will be in a brace for six weeks, after which a rehabilitation process will start, which is 12 weeks. He is not expected to be available till April 15. If he made a comeback by April 15, he may not be available for more than two or three games due to the World Cup. In such a situation, Rajasthan Royals might look for a replacement for their former skipper.

Along with David Warner, Steve Smith did not play the IPL 2018 due to the ball-tampering incident in South Africa. BCCI barred both the cricketers from taking part in IPL 2018 after the Cricket Australia banned the duo for a year.
