Rangpur Riders ensures final, powered by Johnson Charles
The resuming game in the day two of the second qualifier between Rangpur Riders and Comilla Victorians at the Shere Bangla National Stadium in Dhaka has assured the final berth for the Riders in the fifth edition of the Bangladesh Premier League.
With that Mashrafe Bin Mortaza led Rangpur Riders have joined with defending champion Dhaka Dynamites in the final of BPL 2017.
Two set batsmen of Rangpur Riders Johnson Charles and Brendon McCullum empowered the team innings up to the last delivery of the 19th over when McCullum was uprooted by Hasan Ali.
Destruction continued from both end of the wicket when the match started in the second day from where it stopped earlier last night due to rain. Johnson Charles who was unbeaten scoring 46 runs soon his half century.
McCullum on the other hand, although was quiet in the beginning also found his rhythm back for the first time this season. He along with the Caribbean hard hitter Charles formed a gigantic 151 run second wicket partnership after Chris Gayle lost his wicket on the other day at the team score of 27.
Johnson Charles’ launched a rather look a like attack upon the opposition like the way his countryman Chris Gayle destructed the Khulna Titans in the eliminator. On the way of scoring his first ever T20 century, Charles’ unbeaten 105 runs innings in 63 deliveries was adorned by 9 fours and 7 sixes.
McCullum exhibited per excellence in 46 ball 78 runs; on contrary to hit 9 tremendous sixes, the former Kiwi hard hitter hit just a single boundary. Caught by Sohag Gazi off the bowling of Mashrafe Mortaza, Tamim’s fine knock of 36, the second highest in the innings after Litton’s 39, came to an end in the fifth ball of the fifth over.

The increasing run rate pressurized the Victorians’ batting line up as they started losing wickets.
After the opening pair, no other than Marlon Samuels and Jos Buttler could run the momentum of the innings. Samuels and Buttler added 41 in the fifth wicket partnership while Rubel Hossain acclaimed 3 wickets for the Riders.
The match has been running through ambiguity of playing conditions since sudden winter rain fall hit the other day after the match progressed to 7 overs of the Rangpur Riders’ innings.
The match proceedings could not be started before the cut-off time. Comilla Victorians’ captain Tamim Iqbal rejected the offer of a ‘super over’ to decide the match; later the two captains agreed to continue the match for the second day.
