Rashid's 5/27 hands heavy defeat to Ireland

Leg-spinner Adil Rashid has taken a maiden ODI five-wicket haul against Ireland in Bristol as England seal a comfortable victory in the first of the two-match series.

Ireland captain William Porterfield elected to bat first after winning the toss. The Irish openers Ed Joyce (23) and Paul Stirling (20) made good starts. But none could make a big score in their historic ODI match.

Andrew Balbirnie top-scored with 30 runs off 38 deliveries with 4 boundaries. Since his dismissal, the visitors collapsed to a strong English bowling attack.

Adil Rashid picked up quick wickets to go through Irish batting line-up. He finished up with five wickets for 27 runs in eight overs. Joe Root was tight as well with two wickets for nine runs in five overs. Pacers David Willey, Mark Wood and Jake Ball took one wicket each. Ireland were bowled out for a modest total of 126 runs in 33 overs.

Chasing 127, England lost opener Jason Roy (0) early in the first over. Alex Hales and Joe Root put on 77-run partnership. Hales scored his seventh ODI half-century, scoring 55 runs from 39 deliveries which included 10 fours.

Captain Eoin Morgan got out for 11. His deputy Root helped to finish the game in 20 overs. He made 52-ball 47* runs with 7 fours. England won by seven wickets with 30 overs to spare.

Adil Rashid was adjudged Man of the Match for his phenomenal performance with the ball.
