RCB rope in Finn Allen as replacement for Josh Philippe
The Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise Royal Challengers Bangalore have signed up New Zealand wicketkeeper-batsman Finn Allen as replacement for Australia’s Josh Philippe.
Philippe will be unavailable for the entirety of the IPL 2021 season. He made his IPL debut in the last edition, when he played five matches but could manage only 78 runs.
The reason behind wicketkeeper-batsman’s unavailability is not clear. He was in great form in the Big Bash League (BBL). Even in the recent T20I series against Australia, he had two 40-plus knocks. So he was being considered as one of the potential key players for the Virat Kohli-led side.
Meanwhile, this is going to be debut season for Finn in the IPL. He had a base price of INR 20 lakh, equivalent to that of 23-year-old Philippe.
Finn, 21, has so far played 12 First-class games for New Zealand and has three half centuries to his credit.
The 14th edition of the IPL will roll onto the ground on April 9, with defending champions Mumbai Indians taking on RCB at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.
Apart from Bengaluru, the other five venues for this year’s IPL are Ahmedabad, Chennai, Delhi, Mumbai & Kolkata.
