Return of Gayle, Pollard will boost the team, says Brathwaite
West Indies T20I captain, Carlos Brathwaite is excited to have big names like Chris Gayle, Kieron Pollard and Sunil Narine back in the side for the one-off T20I series against India.
“Confidence is always high. You don’t see Kieron Pollard, Marlon Samuels and Chris Gayle sulking or low on confidence. They always think we can win whatever the situation and that rubs off well,” said Brathwaite.
Brathwaite hopes that the presence of the big players will bring out the best from the other players and the whole team will put on a good show against India.
He said,“It is always nice to get the big boys back, nice vibe in the dressing room. With all the boys coming in, we have jokes around, we have fun. We always know where to draw the line. They are all mature guys. Me as the captain, am always trying to keep the dressing room as happy as I can as long as the boys express themselves at the park. Looking forward to a good performance tomorrow.”
The two squared off in an ODI series, which India won by 3-1. Now West Indies will be eager to salvage some pride by winning the T20I series. And with big T20 players like Gayle, Pollard, Narine, Marlon Samuels back in the side they have a better chance of toppling the visitors.
“We have to concentrate on us. It is not about them but us trying to take ourselves to the highest gear as best and as quickly as possible,” Brathwaite said.
The match will take place today in Sabina Park at 9.30 pm(BST).
