But rain could play spoilsport in the tournament, as the weather of the beach city hasn’t been well for last couple of weeks. So whether or not competition organizers will be able to end everything according to their plan is now a matter of great concern.

However, the participating cricketers don’t seem to be much bothered in this regard, as they think the fact of reunion with each other after a long time is greater purpose of the tournament rather than the cricket itselt.

While talking to the media on Wednesday on the eve of the commencement of the competition, Akram Khan said: “Actually it’s more like a carnival to us. The game isn’t much important. The main purpose is reunion with the cricketers with whom we used to play together 15-20 years ago. If this purpose is served properly, we will be more than happy.”

He further added, “Next few days will be of total enjoyment. For instance, it’s a 16-over match. If rain comes, we will curtail down the length of the match till six overs. And even if that’s not possible to go ahead with the game, we will just play football.”

Bangladesh’s maiden Test skipper Naimur Rahman Durjoy also echoed the same sentiment, “We all are together after long time. This is the most important thing for us. Everyone is busy with his own life. Only this kind of events can help us get a reunion. But the game itself also has its own value. Hopefully there won’t be any interruption by rain tomorrow (Thursday).

Another ex-captain Khaled Mashud Pilot said, “If feels great to get together. It will be a great platform for us to not only meet with each other, but also share views on how we could play a role to take the game ahead. I am very happy that finally such an event is happening in our country and we are the part of it.”

Mr Fifty Habibul Bashar Sumon was also excited about the competition, and reserved additional praise for the organizers of it for providing them with the opportunity to get together. “First of all, at last we are here together. There was a time when we all were very close to each other. But that’s not possible in present circumstances, as we all remain busy leading our own life. So this is a great initiative that is allowing us to revisit the old days of our career.”

To be noted, The first season of Masters Cricket Carnival (MCC) will be played at two grounds of Cox’s Bazar. Six group games alongside the two semifinals are slated to be played in the beach city, while the day-night final game will be played at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur, Dhaka on a date yet to be finalized. Gazi TV will bring the live telecast of the final match.
