Richardson, Zampa opt out of IPL

Australian recruits Kane Richardson and Adam Zampa have opted to pull out of the rest of the IPL 2021, Royal Challengers Bangalore have confirmed on Monday (April 26).

The two duo cited ‘personal reasons’ amid growing concerns surrounding the worsening COVID-19 situation in India, which is producing 300,000-plus new cases each day.

“Adam Zampa & Kane Richardson are returning to Australia for personal reasons and will be unavailable for the remainder of IPL season. Royal Challengers Bangalore offers complete support to them in all the possible way we can,” RCB said in a statement. 

RCB are third in the table with four wins from five matches. Richardson played one match while Zampa sat out for all games. The other Aussies – Dan Christian and Glenn Maxwell – have been featuring in the XI.

Another Australian, Andrew Tye who was in Rajasthan Royals squad, has pulled out of the tournament for COVID concerns. Before him, Englishman Liam Livingstone also went back home with bubble fatigue.

Delhi Capitals’ Ravichandran Ashwin has also left the IPL after Sunday’s game against Sunrisers Hyderabad.
