On Saturday (May 4), at the age of 17 years and 175 days, the right hander Parag crafted 50 against Delhi Capitals in Kotla. Sanju Samson held the previous record since 2013, when he achieved the feat at 18 years and 169 days.

Despite the youngster’s gritty effort, Rajasthan Royals could only manage 115 for 9 in their 20 overs.

His fifty came in 48 balls before he was dismissed off the last ball of the innings finishing with 50 in 49 deliveries comprising with 4 fours and 2 sixes.

Last year, Delhi opener Prithvi Shaw came close to breaking the record scoring his first fifty aged 18 years 169 days, while Rishabh Pant hit his first IPL half-century aged 18 years 212 days in 2016. Shubman Gill too scored his first fifty in 2018, aged just 18 years 237 days.

Making his IPL debut this year, Parag has so far played seven matches, scoring 160 runs at an average of 40. His strike-rate is 128.0.
