Rizwan, Ali hand series win to Pakistan

From being levelled at 1-1, Pakistan have clinched the T20I series by 2-1 over Zimbabwe with a 24-run win at Harare Sports Club.

Pakistan could not chase down 119 as they were skittled for 99 runs in the second T20I. They have recovered from the defeat in the decider.

A 124-run second wicket stand between opener Mohammad Rizwan and skipper Babar Azam took Pakistan to 165/3 after opting to bat first.

In-form Rizwan carried the bat through making unbeaten 91 runs off 60 balls. He struck 5 fours and 3 sixes in his seventh fifty-blus score in 11 T20I innings.

World No.2 batter in men’s T20 rankings – Babar become the fastest male cricketer to reach 2000 T20I runs (52 innings) during his 46-ball 52 runs.

Luke Jongwe took all three wickets for Zimbabwe, picking up Sharjeel Khan (18), Babar and Fakhar Zaman (0).

Wesley Madhevere provided a promising start to the hosts. Tadiwanashe Marumane joined him making 35 off 26. But Zimbabwe lacked power at the back end which hand them fall short of the target.Madhevere made 59 off 47 with 7 boundaries which proved not to be enough to seal a historic series win.

Seamer Hassan Ali, who captured career-best 4 for 18, helped Pakistan restrict Zimbabwe to 141/7. He was named the player of the match while Rizwan the series award for scoring 186 runs in three games.

The series will shift to red-ball cricket with the first of the two Tests beginning from April 29.
