Robin Uthappa names the best captain he has played under

Indian cricketer and former KKR batsmen Robin Uthappa has played under some notable captains in his cricketing career. The explosive batsman has now picked the best skipper he has played under and much to everyone’s surprise, it was not Rahul Dravid, Sourav Ganguly, MS Dhoni.

Gautam Gambhir

The 34-year-old Robin Uthappa played under notable Indian captains but he picked his Kolkata Knight Riders captain Gautam Gambhir as the best captain he has played under. Under Gambhir’s captaincy, KKR ended their trophy drought in 2012 by beating MS Dhoni-led Chennai Super Kings in the final.

“Gauti, for me, stood out. Even though he doesn’t speak much, he communicates just what is enough, and you know that you’re in a good place. Good leaders make you feel secure, then they let you be, and you see that in their results as a captain,” Robin Uthappa spoke on ESPNcricinfo’s new show – ‘One on One #Workfromhome.

Uthappa played a key role in KKR’s title-winning campaign in the year 2014. He amassed 660 runs and topped the batting charts as KKR won their second title, beating Kings XI Punjab in the final.

Uthappa also reserved the highest praise for Rohit Sharma, adding that Mumbai Indians skipper is a good leader.“With the way he interacts with his players, you can tell that he is a leader”, he added.

KKR parted ways with Robin Uthappa after the top-order batsman went through an ordinary season with the bat in IPL 2019. He was bought by Rajasthan Royals for Rs 3 crore at December’s IPL player auction.
