‘Rohit and Ishant were anyway not part of the squad,’ says a BCCI official
An official from BCCI quoted that both Rohit Sharma and Ishant Sharma are noway near to travel Australia at the moment and Rohit Sharma is expected to have a fitness test on December 11th.
Ahead of the Test series, India are getting a setback as their right-handed batsman Rohit Sharma and right-arm fast bowler Ishant Sharma are unavailable for the tour. The duo is left out from the touring team due to the injuries and said they will be joining the team and clearing fitness tests in NCA.
The latest confirmation regarding the duo is that both the players are ruled out of the first two Tests. An official from BCCI quoted that the two players are nowhere near traveling to Australia at the moment. The statement from the official hinted that both the players are not a part of the team’s plan right from the beginning.
“Rohit and Ishant were anyway not part of the squad. An 18-member team was announced for the four Tests. Now that Virat (Kohli) is returning, we’re hoping Shreyas Iyer will stay back for the series,” the BCCI source quoted.
According to the source, Rohit Sharma will be having a fitness assessment on December 11th which is just six days before to the start of the Test series. The 14-day quarantine rule in Australia will be another big issue in the matter. And the source confirmed that the team management is looking to add Shreyas Iyer to the Test team who will be a cover-up for both Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma.
“But the problem is that there’s a 14-day mandatory state quarantine in Australia. Even if he is allowed to travel on the 12th, how will he fly? There are no commercial flights. And even if he manages to fly, he has to undergo the two-week solitary quarantine. When will he be available, subject to fitness. We all knew he was never going to fly,” the source added.
