Star wrestler Vinesh Phogat, TT player Manika Batra and Paralympic gold-winning high jumper Mariyappan Thangavelu have been also nominated for the Khel Ratna along with India’s limited-overs vice-captain. On Tuesday, a 12-member committee of the sports ministry sent the names of four athletes from the country to the Center for the Khel Ratna award.

Twenty-two yards has repeatedly flared with Rohit’s bat recently. ‘The Hitman’ set a record by scoring five centuries in the 2019 World Cup. Even after that, Rohit’s bat has spoken in different parts of the world.

Before Rohit, three more cricketers got Khel Ratna. In 1998, Sachin Tendulkar received the Khel Ratna. Exactly nine years after him, Dhoni was given this honor. In 2018, India captain Virat Kohli won the award. This time Rohit is going to write his name in a bracket with them.

This is the first time since 2016 that four athletes have been nominated for the Khel Ratna. Four years ago, star shuttler PV Sindhu, gymnast Dipa Karmakar, shooter Jitu Rai, and wrestler Sakshi Malik were awarded this honor.
