India have leveled the three-match T20I series with a 6-wicket win in the second T20I against Australia in a curtailed 8-over match on Friday (September 23) in Nagpur. Captain Rohit Sharma was the standout performer for India in the win.
The match started very late because of the wait outfield as there was immense rain in Nagpur on Wednesday. So, the umpires decided to start the match after the outfield dried and the match was reduced to 8 overs.
After being sent to bat first, Australia lost wickets at regular intervals from the beginning but opener Aaron Finch kept the run rate going from one end. Spinner Axar Patel was the standout performer for India with the ball as he bowled Glenn Maxwell and Tim David with some great bowling. Though Bumrah, who returned to the squad after a long time, got the wicket of in-form Finch with a brilliant yorker, another in-form batsman Matthew Wade hit boundaries all over the ground and put on a good total of 90 runs in 20 overs.
Finch scored 31 runs off 15 balls and Wade remained unbeaten on 43 runs off just 20 balls with 4 fours and 3 sixes. Axar took two wickets and Bumrah had one. The other two wickets were run-out.
Chasing the target, Rohit and KL Rahul started off very well as they took 20 runs in Josh Hazlewood’s first over. They continued the momentum in the second over too. But then spinner Adam Zampa came and got the wicket of Rahul to give Australia the breakthrough. Then, in his second over, Zampa dismissed Virat Kohli and Suryakumar Yadav to give Australia some hope to win.
But India were always in control in the chasing Rohit was at the crease till the end and Dinesh Karthik finished off the chase with a six and a four in the last over which gave India the win with 4 balls in hand. Rohit was unbeaten on 46 runs off 20 balls with 4 fours and 4 sixes.
