Rumesh Ratnayake appointed interim coach
Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) board has made a sudden change in their coaching role and appointed Rumesh Ratnayake as their interim coach.
In fact, it was widely believed that the post would go to former first-class cricketer Jerome Jayaratne.
“We believed that Ratnayake was already with the team as a bowling coach and known to the players”, one of the sources told to this reporter.
SLC also launched a joint media conference on Monday.
On the dais were the SLC president Shammi Silva, captain Dimuth Karunratne and the chief selector Ashantha de Mel.
New interim coach Ratnayake was not present at the media briefing. Hathrusingha was also not present. It is not known whether he was invited.
New Zealand team was represented by their coach (Gary Stead) and captain Kane Williamson.
