Sachin and Anjali’s partnership has been very special one
The 25th of May is a special day in the life of Master Blaster Sachin Tendulkar. It is the day he married the then Dr Anjali Mehta, who practiced then as a pediatrician. The upcoming Monday will complete the twenty-five years of the couple’s marriage.
One of Sachin’s closest friends, Vinod Kambli reminisces about the big day a quarter of a century ago.
Incidentally, Kambli had shared an unbroken partnership of 664 runs with Sachin Tendulkar in a school cricket match against St. Xavier’s School, Fort.
Speaking exclusively, he said,
“I remember that Sachin being the private person that he is, wanted to keep the wedding and reception ceremonies as low-key and private as possible. He had requested the guests also to not click photographs.”
“But I still remember the smile on Sachin’s face when he saw me as he was going through the wedding rituals. It’s been 25 years to that day and Sachin and Anjali’s partnership has been a very special one.”
Anjali, a gold-medalist pediatrician from Mumbai University, had decided to let go of her career for the sake of bringing up her children, daughter Sara and son Arjun, while her husband toured the world playing some of his best cricket in his life.
“I would like to extend my compliments on this special occasion and wish them more joy and prosperity in the years to come,” Kambli, who played 17 Tests and 104 ODIs, added further.
For a man who loves milestones, Sachin probably is desperate to celebrate the twenty-five years of being married to the love of his life. Yet, with the lock down still in place in Mumbai, that doesn’t seem like a possibility this year.
