Saif, Kapali, Taibur hit double tons on day two


Day two of last round of 18th National Cricket League has seen three double centuries in two different matches. Dhaka Division’s Saif Hassan and Taibur Rahman and Sylhet Division’s Alok Kapali are the double centurions. [বাংলায় পড়ুনঃ একদিনে জাতীয় লিগে তিন ডাবল সেঞ্চুরি]

In the tier one match between Dhaka Division and Barisal Division at Sylhet International Cricket Stadium, Dhaka Division’s Saif scored his second century in first-class cricket on day one, back-to-back. He finished the first day at 131*, Taibur was at 70*. These two put on 304-run stand for the fourth wicket on the next day.

Saif’s maiden double hundred came in 405 balls. He became the youngest (18 years and 66 days) Bangladeshi to score a 200 in first-class. His knock ended at 204 off 410 balls including 20 fours and a six. This was the second double ton in this NCL.

Taibur followed in the same way, he converted his fifth hundred into second double hundred. He scored career-best 242 off 302 balls hitting 26 fourd and one six. This is the highest individual score in NCL 2016-17 season. After his dismissal, Dhaka declared at 588/6.

Sylhet Division’s experienced Alok Kapali scored his third double century in first-class career in the tier two match against Chittagong Division at Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium, Chittagong. Starting the day with 56 runs, Alok’s 19th fc century came in 204 balls. His next hundred runs came in just 62 deliveries. He also became the second Bangladeshi to reach 8000 runs landmark.

There were 12 fours and 10 sixes in Alok’s 266-ball 200. His knock helped Sylhet post 555 for seven and declare in the first innings.

In the previous week, Rangpur Division’s Nasir Hossain smashed the first double century of the season.
