Saif stranded in Kolkata
Yet to debut Bangladesh batsman Saif Hassan’s return to home has been delayed with visa issues. Currently, he is staying back in Kolkata with six other cricketers.
This is not the first time Saif has been touring India in 2019. He first went to the neighbouring country in August when Bangladesh Cricket Board XI took part in a ‘mini Ranji trophy’ where they finished as semi-finalists. He again toured India to lead Bangladesh U23 against India U23 in September.
The 21-year-old travelled India for senior’s duty with the same visa which turned out to be expired on 24rd November – Day 3 of Kolkata D/N Test.
Saif was supposed to return Dhaka with Ebadat Hossain, Shadman Islam and Abu Jayed Rahi on the 25th when he learnt that his visa had expired. He returned back to the team hotel where Mushfiqur Rahim, Taijul Islam, Imrul Kayes, Nayeem Hasan, Liton Das and Mehidy Hasan Miraz are staying.
Saif ensured his maiden national call-up for India Tests after his consistent track record in the domestic arena. He had struck a marathon double hundred just weeks ahead of Bangladesh’s tour of India that boosted his chances in the squad.
Bangladesh went with Shadman Islam and Imrul Kayes as openers in Indore Test. Saif, coming as a substitute fielder, injured his finger while catching a ball speeding off from Cheteshwar Pujara in the first innings. He was taken away for medical attention immediately. The medical authorities confirmed that Saif would be ruled out of historic Eden Gardens Test.
