Salma shines as Trailblazers win Women’s T20 Challenge title
Trailblazers have won the title by defeating Supernovas by 16 runs in the final match of the Women’s T20 Challenge. Salma has contributed with 3 wickets for 18 runs.
After winning the toss at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium, Supernovas invited the opponent to bat first. Smriti Mandhana and Deandra Dottin got off to a great start for the Trailblazers. More than half of the team’s total runs came from the bat of captain Mandhana. Dottin and Mandhana made 71 runs opening partnership. Dottin played a slow innings of 20 off 32 balls.
After her wicket, captain Mandhana alone fought for her team and managed to score a decent total of 118 runs for the opponent. She scored 68 runs off 49 balls.
Radha Yadav took 5 wickets for Supernovas alone. She conceded just 16 runs in 4 overs.
Supernovas did not have a good start in response. They lost one of the most experienced batsmen of the team Chamari Athapaththu by 10 runs. After the initial disaster, no one stood up to tackle the situation and they scored 102 runs for 7 wickets in 20 overs. Captain Harmanpreet Kaur scored 30 runs off 36 balls for Supernovas.
Bangladesh all-rounder Salma Khatun was the standout bowler for Trailblazers with 3 wickets in her 4 overs. After conceding 5 runs in the first two overs, Salma gave only 4 runs in the third over. Her last over was great as three wickets were fallen at that over which gave entire control of the match to the Trailblazers.
Smriti Mandhana was adjusted man of the match for his outstanding innings in the final. Supernovas spinner Radha Yadav was named player of the series for his 8 wickets in just 3 matches.
