Salma’s Bangladesh Blue win gold in Bangabandhu Games
Bangladesh Blue have claimed gold in the ninth Bangabandhu Games held at Sylhet International Cricket Stadium.
Three teams: Bangladesh Red, Bangladesh Blue and Bangladesh Green competed in the event, in which the latter two qualified for the final.
Bangladesh Blue restricted Bangladesh Green for 72 runs in 36 overs after electing to bowl first. The bowlers ran through the Green team’s batting order as Jahanara Alam and Mumta Hena attained figures of 3/15 in 7 and 8 overs respectively.
Skipper Salma Khatun had excellent figures of 2 wickets for 9 runs in 7 overs. Rabeya Khatun took 1/10 in 7 overs.
Ritu Moni, who made 18 runs off 39 balls, was the highest scorer for Bangladesh Green.
Opener Shamima Sultana’s 55-ball 31 and No.3 Fargana Haque’s brisk unbeaten 28* off 32 ensured Bangladesh Blue reach the target in 18.2 overs with eight wickets in hand.
Khadijatul Kubra and Rumana Ahmed were the two wicket-takers for the runners-up side.
Despite strong bowling performances in the Blue team, Shamima was awarded player of the match award.
