Salma’s Trailblazers in final of Women’s T20 challenge despite loss

Salma Khatun’s team Trailblazers has reached the final of the Women’s T20 Challenge despite losing to Supernovas. In the third match of the tournament, Supernovas beat Trailblazers by 2 runs.

Two openers Chamari Atapattu and Priya Punia got off to a great start after winning the toss in Sharjah. Even though Priya played cautiously, Atapattu attacked the bowlers. When the Trailblazers were desperate for wickets, captain Smriti Mandhana handed the ball to Bangladeshi all-rounder Salma Khatun.

Where other bowlers were conceding runs, Salma gave only 5 runs in the first over. In the 12th over, she came back to bowl for her second over and got the wicket of Priya (30 off 37 balls).

In the end, Salma took 1 wicket conceding just 25 runs in 4 overs. Atapattu, however, scored a half-century. She played a stormy innings of 67 runs from 48 balls. Captain Harmanpreet Kaur scored 31 runs and Supernovas scored 146 runs losing 6 wickets in 20 overs. Salma, Harleen Deol and Jhulan Goswami took one wicket each.

Deandra Dottin and captain Smriti Mandhana got the Trailblazers off to a good start. Dottin got out after playing a stormy innings of 27 runs off 15 balls. Smriti took 33 runs off 40 balls. Deepti Sharma kept the scoreboard continued with a good innings. At the other end, Richa Ghosh and Dayalan Hemalatha returned to the dressing room and Deol took the charge with Deepti. However, she was dismissed for 27 off 15 balls at the crucial moment in the last over. In the end, Trailblazers lost 5 wickets in 20 overs scoring 144 runs. Supernovas topped Velocity with the win by 2 runs. Deepti remained unbeaten on 43 off 40 balls.

Radha Yadav and Shakera Selman took 2 wickets each. Anuja Patel took one wicket.
