Sammy’s allegation of racism proves true as Ishant called him ‘kalu’ on Instagram
Caribbean cricketer Darren Sammy has recently revealed surprising information about racism. In the Indian Premier League (IPL), he was treated racistly but so far he didn’t understand it.
The cricket world is in a frenzy over the demand of the West Indies T20 World Cup winning captain. Sammy claimed that his teammates used to call him and Sri Lanka all-rounder Thisara Perera ‘kalu’ while they were playing in Sunrisers Hyderabad.
Some of Sammy’s Hyderabad teammates including Parthiv Patel, Venugopal Rao, Irfan Pathan claimed that they were not aware of such incidents.
But Sammy’s claim can be proved by a picture that was posted by his former SRH teammate Ishant Sharma, who mentioned the West Indian as ‘kalu’ in the caption.
“Me, bhuvi, kaluu and gun sunrisers,” Ishant captioned the picture. In which picture except Ishant there were Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Sammy and South Africa’s Dale Steyn.

It’s also surprising that even SRH coaching staff knew about Sammy’s nickname ‘kalu’. A tweet by the former West Indies captain, wishing batting mentor VVS Laxman on his birthday also had the word kalu in it.
“Happy birthday @VVSLaxman281 May God continue to bless you. #bestdresser oh remember the dark kalu,” Sammy had tweeted on November 1, 2014.
