Samson, Morris sink Kolkata to the bottom
In a battle between the bottom two teams in the points table, Rajasthan Royals succeeded as they picked up a convincing 6-wicket victory over Kolkata Knight Riders at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Saturday (April 24).
Rajasthan came back to winning ways by chasing down the 134-run target with 7 balls to spare. Skipper Sanju Samson was in the middle till the end, batting according to the situation and guiding his side to a much-needed victory with an unbeaten 42 off 41 balls, which featured 2 fours and a six.
David Miller also played 24 not out off 23, smashing 3 boundaries while opener Yashasvi Jaiswal and Shivam Dube scored 22 each.
For Kolkata, Varun Chakravarthy picked up two wickets for 32. Shivam Mavi and Prasidh Krishna shared the other two wickets between them.
Earlier batting first, Kolkata were restricted to 133 for nine in their allotted 20 overs, with Rahul Tripathi being the top-scorer for his team. Tripathi’s 26-ball 36 saw 2 sixes alongside a solitary boundary.
Dinesh Karthik also scored 25 off 24 with 4 boundaries, while opener Nitish Rana added 22 runs.
For Rajasthan, Chris Morris bagged a four-for, conceding just 23 runs in his quota of four overs. Mustafizur Rahman also continued shining with the ball in hand, finishing with figures of one for 22. Jaydev Unadkat and Chetan Sakariya too took one wicket apiece.
With this victory, Rajasthan got promoted to No.6 in the points table, having won two out of five matches. Kolkata, after suffering their fourth straight defeat, are currently languishing at the bottom of the table.
