Sania Mirza takes a swipe at subcontinent mentality
Australia pacer Mitchell Starc recently skipped the last ODI of Australia’s tour of South Africa that was held in Potchefstroom. Thanks to Cricket Australia that accepted Starc’s request to watch wife Alyssa Healy play the final of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup in the stands at the Melbourne Cricket Ground.
While addressing the reporters at the pre-match press conference ahead of third ODI against South Africa, Australia coach Justin Langer announced the development by calling it a once in a lifetime opportunity for Mitchell Starc to watch his wife play in a home World Cup final.
Langer said that the team management was happy to allow Starc to return home in a bid to support his wife and to be a part of a great spectacle.
“It’s a once-in-a-lifetime chance for Mitch [Mitchell Starc] to watch Alyssa [Healy] in a home World Cup final and so we were happy to allow him to return home to support his wife and be part of a fantastic occasion.
“It is something we have been talking about for a while and, given Mitch has had a considerable workload in all three formats this summer, his heading home a couple of days ahead of the rest of the squad means he will have a chance to refresh ahead of our home and away one-day internationals and Twenty20 internationals against New Zealand that will wrap up our season,” Justin Langer was quoted as saying.
Starc’s wife Healy scored a quickfire 12th T20I fifty in a match-winning 115-run opening partnership with Player of the Series Beth Mooney.
Meanwhile, India Tennis player Sania Mirza lauded Mitchell Starc for travelling back home to support his wife in one of the most important matches of her cricketing career.
Taking to Twitter to appreciate the couple goals, Mirza went on to take a dig at the subcontinent mentality which would have immensely criticized had any player missed an international match to watch her wife play the match.
Sure thing !! God forbid it would be a guy from the subcontinent, the guy would be called a ‘joru ka ghulaam’ in one second 😅 good on you Mitchell 👍🏽 couple goals for sure!! #beentheredonethat 🤣 https://t.co/yl3ZlGFPkY

Mirza, wife of veteran Pakistan all-rounder Shoaib Malik, often finds herself or her husband being on the receiving end of trolls on social media.
Virat Kohli’s wife and Bollywood actress Anushka Sharma took a screenshot of Sania Mirza’s tweet and posted on Instagram story. Just like Sania Mirza, Anushka Sharma is another personality who often gets trolled on social media.
