One of the senior officials of the Pakistan Cricket Board told Press Trust of India that the decision had been taken when PCB Chairman Shaharyar Khan and Head of the Executive Committee Najam Sethi were in London during the Champions Trophy.
The official thus revealed, “It is now just a formality of the PCB Chairman making an announcement when he returns home. The decision has been taken and is final.”
“Sarfraz will take over as Test captain after being appointed as deputy to Misbah – ul – Haq on the recent tour to the West Indies” – he further said.
A meeting of the governing body will be held to give out the formal approval after PCB Chairman will return home within a week.
Pakistan’s most successful Test captain Misbah – ul – Haq retired at the age of 42, after the tour of West Indies. He had been in the position since 2010.
PCB official hinted about retaining coach Mickey Arthur in his position saying PCB Chairman is delighted in his work.
“Any decision on the future of some coaches will be taken based on the committees suggestions. But Chairman Shaharyar Khan is delighted with the work of the head coach, Mickey Arthur” – PCB official added.
