Sehwag suggests India openers for Australia Tests

Former India opener Virender Sehwag has come up with his own set of choices for India’s opening position for their upcoming Test series against Australia.

Rahul-Shaw pair seems to be the most attacking opening option for India.

India’s squad for the Australia Tests includes three openers, in the form of Murali Vijay, KL Rahul and Prithvi Shaw. The former two have been in and out of the playing eleven for a while, for they have not been the most consistent of late.

On the other hand, there simply can not be any question regarding Prithvi’s capability, as he has already proved his mettle during his debut series against West Indies.

And hence, Sehwag is of the opinion that Shaw must be given an opportunity to open India innings Down Under, and KL Rahul could be his partner, as these two are the more attacking combination among all the permutations.

“Prithvi and Rahul should open. Because the trend Down Under is that whoever is an attacking batsman makes a lot of runs and wins matches for the team,” said Sehwag.

Sehwag also cast his vote for the inclusion of in-form Rohit Sharma in India’s Test team. “Definitely Rohit should be part of the playing XI. A player who has scored 3 double hundreds in ODIs shouldn’t be sitting out of Tests. I have been repeating this for a long time now.”

The first match of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy will commence on December 6 in Adelaide. Overall the full-fledged bilateral series will feature three T20Is, four Test matches and three ODIs.
