Selectors keeping faith in Soumya
Bangladesh may have reached the semifinals of the ICC Champions Trophy 2017, their best ever result in a global event. But still, Soumya Sarkar perhaps will like to forget this particular tournament. [বাংলায় পড়ুনঃ সৌম্যর উপর অটুট থাকছে নির্বাচকদের আস্থা]
Prior to the Champions Trophy, Soumya had shown hints of coming back to form in the tri-nation series in Ireland, making two half centuries for his team. But in the Champions Trophy, he failed miserably, as his four innings were as follows – 28, 3, 3, 0.
But despite having such a bad tournament with the bat in hand, Soumya still has the faith of the national selectors. Chief selector Minhajul Abedin Nannu said that they would like to provide Soumya some more chance.
“You can’t say Soumya is not playing well at all. We had to back-to-back series, first of which was in Ireland. And Soumya performed really well in the Ireland tri-series. He failed in the Champions Trophy,” said Nannu.
He also added, “You can’t eveluate a player just like this. You have to consider his value. You have to consider the performance he put in throughout the year. You have to go by his match by match numbers, and see if he really had been consistent.”
Nannu isn’t quite sure as to what’s going wrong with Soumya, “I don’t know what’s bothering him. Maybe he has some tactical problems. Mental pressure can also be a big factor. There’s a camp ahead. Hopefully he will work hard there, and make a good comeback.”
