Seven arrested from Eden Gardens for involving in betting

Seven spectators were arrested in connection with cricket betting from the Eden Gardens during the Indian Premier League (IPL) game between Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), on Saturday.

A team of Anti Rowdy Squad (ARS) and Detective Department (DD) handcuffed the persons from F1 Block at the Eden Gardens, police reported.

“The group was nabbed on Friday after the ARS and DD received information from a source regarding betting at Eden Gardens for VIVO Indian Premier League cricket match, which was played between Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB),”

police said.

As per media reports, the police got the trails from a source information and took immediate action.

Four of those arrested were from Nagpur in Maharashtra. Three others hailed from Sagar town in Motinagar police station area in Madhya Pradesh, police said.

“Fourteen mobile phones including one betting accessory have been seized. A specific case is being recorded at Maidan Police Station,” said Joint Commissioner of Police (JCP), crime, Praveen Tripathi.

Beside the mobile phones, an amount of Rs 1 lakh and other materials were also seized from accused Mahesh Singh and Sai Kiran Yadav. Both from Jiyaguda have been arrested and the prime suspect Sudesh Singh alias Laddu is absconding.

The match between KKR and RCB was lived with run-feast as both the teams scored more than 200 runs.

Andre Russell was in close proximity of taking his side to another heart rending win but the KKR were eventually fell short by just 10 runs while chasing an improbable 213.

Before that, asked to bat first, the Royal Challengers cashed on skipper Virat Kohli’s marvelous century and Moeen Ali’s flashy fifty to put up the huge total.
