Sexually harassed woman cricketer’s medical reports awaited
Baroda Cricket Association (BCA) is awaiting the medical reports of one of the victims, who is alleged to have been “sexually harassed” by their coach Atul Bedade.
This was revealed Ajit Lele (son of former BCCI secretary late Jaywant Lele), the secretary of BCA.
“The victim is being treated in a hospital in Hyderabad. Her most of the relatives are into medical profession there and hence she is taking her treatment there,”
“There have been more than one complainants against Bedade. So far, there is no complaint of “sexual favour” against Bedade,” Lele clarified.
“After this suspension, more girls may come out in open.”
Bedade, who has played 13 ODIs’ for India was warned by a match-referee and if the allegations are proved, his career will be finished.
Bedade appeared before the internal committee but Apex Council will form a neutral committee.
Former first class cricketer Shishir Hattagandi (CEO of the association) was a member of the preliminary investigation team. Interestingly, Hattagandi had appeared as a witness for a woman when her allegations against the BCCI CEO (Rahul Johri) were heard. Johri, however, was exonerated.
“The allegations against my brother are false. The justice is not given in this case and no show cause notice was served,” Atul’s brother, Amarish Bedade, speaking exclusively, said.
The identity of the woman cricketer is known to this reporter but to protect her privacy, we refrain from revealing it at this stage.
The 20-year-old woman player has played for India B team, Emerging team and was also a member of India A team on Australia tour last December.
“She has a bright future and will play for the senior team,” one coach, who has seen her playing, said.
