Shahid Afridi named as icon player for the upcoming Euro T20 slam


Former Pakistan captain Shahid Afridi has named as icon player in the upcoming upcoming Euro T20 slam in Ireland, Netherland and Scotland.

The 2019 Euro T20 Slam is scheduled to be the inaugural edition of the Euro T20 Slam, a Twenty20 cricket tournament, co-hosted by Cricket Ireland, Cricket Scotland and the Koninklijke Nederlandse Cricket Bond (KNCB)

There will be six teams in the tournament, two each from Ireland, Scotland and the Netherlands as well as six icons and six marquee players. The other icons are- Australian all-rounder Shane Watson, former New Zealand hard-hitter batsman Brendon McCullum, Afghanistan’s mystery spinner Rashid Khan. And the marquee players are- South African all-rounder Jean Paul Duminy, South African spinner Imran Tahir, Australian hard-hitter batsman Chris Lynn, former New Zealand wicket-keeper Luke Ronchi, Pakistan’s top-order batsman Babar Azam. Two other icon players and one other marquee player will be announced soon.

The six franchises are- Chiefs & Belfast Titans from Ireland, Glasgow Giants & Edinburgh Rocks from Scotland and Dublin Amsterdam Kings & Rotterdam Rhinos from Netherlands.

“I have made the most of my initial days in cricket playing in Leicestershire, Derbyshire and Kent. I am expecting similar sort of surfaces and climate in Ireland, Scotland and Netherlands. It is the part of the world where we won our only World T20 title. I am truly eager to go out there and entertain the fans,” the 39-year old all-rounder said after being named as icon player.

The tournament is scheduled to start on 30 August and conclude on 22 September 2019. There will total 33 matches will be played throughout the tournament in three round named Netherlands round, Scotland round and Ireland round.
