Shakib Academy set for opening this month
Shakib Al Hasan’s dream ‘Masco Shakib Cricket Academy’ is just three weeks away from inauguration.
The academy is situated in Kanchan, Rupganj of Narayanganj district, 21 kilometers away from Dhaka airport. 5.3 acres of land make up Shakib’s academy in the wide open spaces.
The unveiling program will be held on January 29, during Bangladesh and West Indies’ transition period from ODIs to Tests.
Last year Shakib posted a video on social media showing a big ground getting watered on. It was later known that the ground would be an academy of his name to develop Bangladesh’s future cricketers.
Shakib’s project includes indoors, a hostel as well as a hospital. With high hopes, it is believed that the academy will match the likes of world’s top cricket academies.
Supported by Masco group, the academy has employed curators and groudsmen trained from the BCB (Bangladesh Cricket Ground).
Mohammad Salahuddin, a childhood coach of many Bangladeshi cricketers including Shakib, will take coaching role. Although Shakib will be the lead in looking after the academy.
Several former and current cricketers have opened their own cricket academies. MS Dhoni, Gary Kirsten, Chris Gayle, Ravichandran Ashwin, Harbhajan Singh, Joe Root, Adil Rashid and Pathan brothers (Yusuf and Irfan) are some of the top names.
