Nathan Lyon was given a send-off from Shakib on the first day when he came out as a nightwatchman. Steve Smith, David Warner and Matthew Wade also engaged in sledgings at different points of the match. Tamim had stopped Warner on third day while Wade exchanged words with the hungry Tigers.

“Australians are very good at it, we are learning from them. After this Test match they will show a lot more respect,” Shakib said after the match.

“At home, we believe we can beat any side. We had that confidence and the belief came from the last two-three years. Not many have been watching us but we were quietly doing our job,” he added.

Shakib was named Man of the Match for his 84 runs in the first innings and ten-wicket haul in the match in Bangladesh’s narrow 20-run victory.

The second Test between Bangladesh and Australia will begin on September 4 at Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium, Chittagong.
