Shakib flops as Barbados Tridents lose in the CPL first qualifier
Bangladesh all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan flops unfortunately as well as his team Barbados Tridents as they lose the first qualifier match by 30 runs against Guyana Amazon Warriors on Sunday in the seventh season of the Caribbean Premier League (CPL).
It’s the fifth final for Guyana Amazon Warriors in CPL. But they never won any title because they lost their previous four finals. Last year, they lost against Trinbago Knight Riders by 8 wickets in the final.
Winning the toss, Guyana Amazon Warriors opted to bat first at Providence. They started to play aggressive from the beginning and eventually they scored a huge total of 218 runs in 20 overs by losing just 3 wickets. Opener Brandon King was the standout performer with 132 runs not out from just 72 balls with 10 fours and 11 sixes. Hayden Walsh took 2 wickets for Barbados Tridents.
Shakib was much expensive in his four overs as he finished with the bowling figure 4-0-46-0. Although Shakib continued his great form in bowling as he went for just 17 runs in his first three overs but the main devastation came in his last over. In the 16th over of the match, he went for a huge 29-run (6,6,1,4,6,6) and ended with conceding 46 runs.
Chasing the huge target of 219 runs, Barbados never looked like that they’re wining as they were shaky from the start of the innings. They lost their wickets continuously. Shakib flopped in batting too as he scored just 5 runs off 9 balls. Barbados finished their innings at 188 runs by losing 8 wickets and lost the match by 30 runs. Opener Alex Hales scored 36 runs off 19 balls and middle-order batsman Jonathan Carter scored 49 runs off 26 balls. But there was a lack of one ‘Brandon King’ in their innings which cost them the match.
Romario Shepherd took 3 wickets and veteran Imran Tahir took 2 wickets for Guyana Amazon Warriors. With no surprise, Brandon King was adjusted man of the match for his outstanding century.
