Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) reached the final of the 14th edition of the IPL defeating Delhi Capitals by 6 wickets yesterday in Sharjah. After winning the second qualifier match, team mentor David Hussey praised Shakib Al Hasan and hoped to get him in the final match as well.
Bangladesh team are currently preparing for the upcoming T20 World Cup as they will have to play the first round of the tournament. Their first match is against Scotland on October 17, so there’s uncertainty over Shakib’s participation in the final, which is on October 15. But Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has already confirmed that they’ve increased the time of Shakib’s No-objection Certificate (NOC) and he’ll join the national team after finishing the Indian Premier League (IPL).
“Yes, of course he (Shakib Al Hasan) is available. He is a fine player he has probably won us two games. Everyone is going to be available for selection and it is going to be a tough call for the head coach,”
Hussey said.
The opening batsmen-Venkatesh Iyer and Shubman Gill of KKR are playing well but their middle-order especially captain Eoin Morgan is not able to do that. But behind this, he sees the opposition of the pitch with a smile.
"I'm not concerned because they're all classy players," Hussey said. "They know how to play. It's just the difficult nature of the pitches that we've been playing on, it makes the middle-order players sort of stand out. They're not getting their strike rates to 200, they have to knuckle down and maybe go at a strike rate of 110 to 120.
"But we've got full confidence in Morgan, Dinesh Karthik and Shakib going into the next game. They've done it countless times for their countries and in the IPL, so [we are] not concerned. We go to Dubai full of confidence and you just never know what's gonna happen," Hussey added.
KKR will face MS Dhoni-led Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the final of the IPL 2021.
