Shakib overwhelmed by Wisden’s ‘MVP’ recognition
Wisden Magazine is known as the bible of cricket. Recently, it has given a unique recognition to Bangladesh all rounder Shakib Al Hasan. Wisden has named Shakib as the second most important cricketer of the century in ODIs and the sixth most important cricketer of the century in Tests. Such an achievement is also unprecedented for Bangladesh. Shakib is also overwhelmed by this achievement.
“I am very happy and honored to be able to represent the country in this prestigious list as one of the best players in the world,” the all-rounder said in a message on social media Facebook. Shakib is thrilled with this prestigious achievement of Wisden.
Shakib Al Hasan also feels that Wisden deserves thanks for evaluating him. Shakib did not forgot to express gratitude to them.
“I sincerely thank Wisden, the biblical magazine of cricket, for choosing me to be ranked 2nd in ODI cricket and 6th in Test cricket among the most valuable cricketers of the century,” he said.
Wisden Monthly has selected this ‘Most Valuable Player’ or MVP in a joint study with cricket statistics analyst firm Cricviz. The list was published in the July issue of the magazine.Former England all-rounder Andrew Flintoff has been named the most valuable cricketer in the ODI format.
However, the list in the Wisden Monthly is not based on the number of runs or wickets, it is based on points from Cricviz data scientist Sam Green. A point is given in a match compared to the performance of other players on the team. After that, the average of all the match points has been taken as the rating of 6 cricketers. Here Shakib’s rating is 0.5 less than Flintoff’s.
The title of the most valuable cricketer in Tests has gone to former Sri Lankan spinner Muttiah Muralitharan. They are followed by India’s all-rounder Rabindra Jadeja, Australia’s Steve Smith Glenn McGrath and South Africa’s Shaun Palak. Shakib is sixth.
