Shakib returns as No.2 in T20Is


Bangladesh’s former T20I captain Shakib Al Hasan has returned to ICC T20I rankings. He holds the second spot among all-rounders.

Afghanistan’s Mohammad Nabi tops the all-rounders’ table with 294 points, 26 ahead of Shakib’s 268. Glenn Maxwell of Australia is third with 220 points.

Shakib was second to Maxwell before the suspension. He had 355 points then. The ICC (International Cricket Council) published the latest T20I rankings on Wednesday which marks return of Bangladesh’s poster boy on the list.

The left-handed all-rounder is placed 49th with 467 points in batting rankings while he is at No.20 with 567 points on the bowlers’ list.

The latest updates saw England’s Dawid Malan (877) retaining his No.1 position in the batting rankings. But Pakistan captain Babar Azam, who is second with 871, is closing the gap between the two. Liton Das is the highest ranked Bangladeshi batsmen with 563 points at 21st slot.

Afghans Rashid Khan (1st, 736 points) and Mujeeb Ur Rahman (2nd, 730) domimate the bowlers’ rankings. Shakib has the best position among Bangladeshi bowlers.

Mahmudullah Riyad is jointly placed tenth with Oman’s Zeeshan Maqsood in the all-rounder rankings.

Bangladesh played 7 T20Is during Shakib’s suspension period. They lost 1-2 to India in India, 0-2 (3 matches, last match washed out) to Pakistan in Pakistan before sealing 2-0 victory over Zimbabwe at home.

Earlier, Shakib returned to Men’s ODI rankings where he eclipsed Nabi to be No.1 all-rounder.
