Ace all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan has been ruled out of Bangladesh's first Test against Pakistan that starts at Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium, Chattogram on November 26.
The 34-year-old was named in the extended Test squad but it was mentioned his selection will subject to fitness tests. Shakib is still recovering from hamstring injury which he sustained during the T20 World Cup in the UAE.
Shakib's participation in the Dhaka Test, which will be played on December 4-8, remains uncertain.
Bangladesh are already without opener Tamim Iqbal who is nursing a hand injury. A lot will depend on the likes of skipper Mominul Haque, Mushfiqur Rahim, Mehidy Hasan Miraz and Taijul Islam to provide a solid start to the second cycle of the World Test Championship.
Shakib's exit means he is the third player to miss the first Test for injury - Taskin Ahmed being the other as the pacer was struck on his hand during the third T20I at Mirpur.
Since return to international cricket, Shakib has played two Tests (was declared unfit miday through the first West Indies Test) against West Indies and Zimbabwe. He skipped the Sri Lanka tour to make himself available for the IPL in April.
Bangladesh Test squad: Mominul Haque (Captain), Shadman Islam, Saif Hasan, Najmul Hossain Shanto, Mushfiqur Rahim, Litton Kumer Das, Nurul Hasan Sohan, Mehidy Hasan Miraz, Nayeem Hasan, Taijul Islam, Ebadot Hossain Chowdhury, Abu Jayed Chowdhury Rahi, Yasir Ali Rabbi, Mahmudul Hasan Joy, Rejaur Rahman Raja, Shakib Al Hasan (subject to being declared fit to play)
