Shakib shines on CPL return
Shakib Al Hasan produced an all-round performance on his Caribbean Premier League (CPL) return for Barbados Tridents against St Kitts.
It was a perfect outing for Bangladesh all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan on his CPL as he performed equally well with the bat and the ball. However, his team Barbados Tridents suffered a heartbreaking defeat by 1 run in the end against St Kitts.
After winning the toss, St Kitts opted to first and managed to score a fighting total of 149 runs losing 7 wickets. Shakib was economical with the ball as he picked up one wicket and conceded only 14 runs in his 4 overs including one maiden. He picked up the wicket of the St Kitts’ skipper Carlos Brathwaite, who departed for only 7 runs.
In reply, opener Johnson Charles (13) and Alex Hales (19) departed early. The pressure was once again on Shakib and he delivered. With 3 fours and 1 six, he scored 38 off just 25 balls which was also the highest individual score for Barbados. After his departure, Barbados collapsed again and not even Raymon Reimer’s firing cameo of 34 off just 18 balls could take them over the line.
In the end, Shakib’s side suffered a narrow 1-run defeat. St Kitts’ skipper Brathwaite was named man of the match for his 3/30.
