Shakib thanks the fans and urges to stay calm

Shakib Al Hasan posted a message for his fans and well-wishers for sticking with him in this tough period and also urged them to stay calm.

Shakib Al Hasan
Bangladesh’s ace all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan is currently passing the toughest period of his cricketing career after the International Cricket Council (ICC) imposed a one-year suspension for not reporting bookies’ approach.

As soon as the cricket board released a press regarding Shakib’s ban, the all-rounder went to the BCB to give his official announcement to the press along with the BCB president Nazmul Hassan Papon. This was the last time he spoke and since then, he has been hard to find and didn’t talk to any reporter.

However, on the fourth day of the ban, Shakib finally broke his silence and posted a message for his fans on his official Facebook page where he thanked all the well-wishers for their constant support. He also urged the fans to stay calm in this situation.

“To all my fans and well-wishers, let me start by saying that I have been touched and felt blessed by your unconditional support and affection during what has been a very difficult time for me and my family. In the last few days I have realised more than ever what it means to represent your country.

On that note, I am requesting calm and patience from all my supporters who may have felt aggrieved at the sanction imposed on me,” he said.

Shakib also cleared out the fact that the entire investigation by the ICC Anti-Corruption Unit was confidential and the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) didn’t know anything about it.

“I wish to make it very clear that the entire investigation by the ICC Anti-Corruption Unit was confidential and the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) only came to know about it from me just a few days before the announcement of the sanction. From that point onwards, the BCB has been most supportive and understanding of my situation and I am grateful for that.

I can understand why many people are offering to help and I really appreciate that. However, there is a process in place and I have accepted my ban because I felt that was the right thing to do.

My entire focus now is on returning to the cricket field and playing for Bangladesh again in 2020. Until then keep me in your prayers and heart. Thank you,” he added.

As things stand, Shakib can resume to cricket on October 29, 2020.
