Bangladeshi all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan is going to start the T20 World Cup mission without any rest. The cricketer, who’s busy in the Indian Premier League (IPL), is joining the team today.
The seventh edition of the T20 World Cup will start on October 17. Shakib, however, has not yet joined the team. He played the final of the IPL yesterday against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in which his team Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) lost the match.
The World Cup will be held at the same venues as IPL. The BCB (Bangladesh Cricket Board) therefore agreed to allow Shakib to play in the IPL. However, the question arose about joining Shakib's team. In Bangladesh’s first match against Scotland on October 17, how will he join the team?
National team selector Habibul Bashar Sumon clarified everything. The former captain is currently with the team in Oman. He told to BDCricTime that Shakib will join the Bangladesh team directly from the bio-bubble of IPL. He’ll use the road instead of air to avoid the risk of coronavirus.
“Shakib is in the bio-bubble of IPL so that this zone does not break so the ICC will send Shakib to Oman in a separate vehicle instead of a flight. As he is the only player to travel to Oman, it is not possible to arrange a chartered flight for a single player at this time.”
Shakib, who has played five matches in a row in 13 days in IPL, will go down to the T20 World Cup without any rest. Bashar also expressed hope that this will not be a problem for Shakib.
"The day after tomorrow (October 17) is the match against Scotland. Since Shakib is in the game, there will not be much problem for him,” added Bashar.
